# How to create an image URL

This article describes an easy way to create image URLs for use in WhatsApp template messages

### Creating a Public Image URL for WhatsApp Templates

WhatsApp image templates require a publicly accessible HTTPS URL that points directly to the image file. The URL must not require the user to log in or display a web page before the image.

#### Option 1 (Recommended): Cloudinary

1. Create a free Cloudinary account.
2. Upload your `.jpg` or `.png` image to the Media Library.
3. Once uploaded, select the image.
4. Copy the Secure URL (HTTPS) shown for the image.
5. Use this URL in your WhatsApp message template.

The URL will look similar to:

```
https://res.cloudinary.com/your-cloud-name/image/upload/v1234567890/your-image.png
```

#### Option 2: Public Cloud Storage (AWS S3 or Cloudflare R2)

If your organisation already uses cloud storage:

1. Upload the image to a public bucket.
2. Ensure the object has public read access.
3. Copy the HTTPS URL for the image.

For example:

```
https://assets.yourcompany.com/images/banner.png
```

### Testing

Before using the URL in a WhatsApp template:

* Open the URL in a browser.
* The image should display immediately.
* The URL should end with the image filename (for example `.jpg`, `.jpeg`, `.png` or `.webp`) or otherwise return the image directly.
* The URL must be accessible without logging in.

Once the image opens directly in your browser, it can be used in the image header of your WhatsApp template.
